This Eri Shawl is a genuine handloom piece , handwoven on the traditional looms by weavers from the north east state of Assam in India.
The Shawl has natural dyed hand spun Eri Silk yarns in the weft and natural dyed Cotton yarns in the warp and the motifs are in natural off white eri silk.
Eri blends beautifully with cottons and other silks like mulberry and tassar .
Eri silk is procured from the caterpillar Samia Cynthia Ricini and is found in the north eastern state of Assam and nearby region.
Eri is also categorised as Ahimsa or Peace Silk as it is one of the rare silk that is procured without killing the moth. Eri along with Muga Silk is indigenous to the region .
Unlike other silks, Eri Silk does not have any bright sheen. The presence of hand spun yarns gives the shawl a very unique texture . There will be surface unevenness and slight dry texture . The colour is also uneven because the hand spun yarns are never uniform in fineness or thickness .
This shawl is ideal for mild winter only or as an indoor shawl during winter .
