Handwoven Natural Dyed Hand Spun Eri Silk Shawl From Assam
This Eri Shawl is a genuine handloom piece , it is hand spun and handwoven on the traditional looms by weavers from the north east state of Assam in India.
Eri silk is procured from the caterpillar Samia Cynthia Ricini and is found in the north eastern state of Assam and nearby region.
The Eri Silk used here is hand spun , hence it does not have a very soft feel or smoothness . And the motif yarns are in Muga Gicha.
The entire process in the production of this stole is manual, hence the resultant texture is very unique . Slightly coarse but that will disappear over time .
Gicha silk is produced from the cocoons of wild silks like Muga and Tassar . Ghicha silks do not have the shine or lustre like the longer filament yarns of Muga or Tassar .
Unlike other silks, Eri Silk does not have any bright sheen.
Please Note - This shawl has Natural dyed yarns . Sometimes there is inconsistency in the yarns due to natural dye process and weavers make mistakes while weaving . This is the case with this shawl where there is one portion of the shawl which has lighter dyed yarns compared to the other part of the shawl . It is clearly visible in the pics . Please be aware of this while placing the order .
Properly stored , it will last a lifetime. One of the best qualities of Handspun Eri or Muga is their durability and yarn strength .
This shawl is ideal for mild winter only or as an indoor shawl during winter .
The colours may fade and bleed due to the natural process of dying.
