The brown colour of the shawl is the natural colour of the yarns . The shawl has natural brown eri in the warp and weft . The motif yarns are in acrylic / cotton . Here , the warp yarns are mill spun yarns and the weft are hand spun yarns . the presence of hand spun yarns gives the shawl a slubby and uneven texture that is unique to textiles woven from hand spun yarns .
Eri silk is procured from the caterpillar Samia Cynthia Ricini and is found in the north eastern state of Assam and nearby region. Eri is also categorised as Ahimsa or Peace Silk as it is one of the rare silk that is procured from ruptured cocoons.
Eri Silk inherently does not have any bright sheen. It always has a very subtle sheen . It looks and drapes like cotton but has all the inherent silk properties.
Eri cocoons comes in two natural colours - off whites and reddish brown . The resultant yarns in their natural colours reflect that . The red brown variety of cocoons are rarer than the off white.
