Indigo Dyed Eri Silk Scarf from our looms in Assam , India .
It has Eri Silk as the warp and weft and the filling yarns are all in cotton .
It has mill spun Eri Silk yarns in the warp and hand spun Eri silk in the weft . All interwoven motifs are in ghicha silk .
Eri silk is procured from the caterpillar Samia Cynthia Ricini and is found in the north eastern state of Assam and nearby region.
Eri Silk inherently does not have any bright sheen as it is always spun silk . It always has a very subtle sheen . It looks and drapes like cotton but has all the inherent silk properties.
Since hand spun silk is present in the weft , there will be s slight uneven texture , and dye that can be seen widthwise.
Eri Silk is easier to take care of than other more delicate silks like Mulberry Silks. If properly taken care of and stored in cool and dry place , It will last a lifetime.
The production of Eri Silk yarns are still majorly an indigenous activity of the tribal people of the region and the dyeing / weaving activities are mostly village activities that employs a large no of women from the villages.
Eri Silk also has anti fungal properties , hence ideal for anyone who has skin allergies.
Please note that there could be slight imperfections as these are handloom products.
