This is a handloom product from our looms in Assam , India .
The Scarf has hand spun Eri silk yarns in the warp and hand spun Eri silk yarns in the weft . It has been woven in a very traditional manner on basic village looms . Traditionally Eri Silk yarns were always hand spun . Hence these kinds of shawls were always made from hand spun yarns .Articles woven from hand spun yarns are more coarse and does not possess shine. The scarf has been woven with pre washed yarns to make it softer .
This scarf has undergone the process of Calendaring to make it smoother and softer .
Eri silk is procured from the caterpillar Samia Cynthia Ricini and is found in the north eastern state of Assam and nearby region.
Unlike other silks, it does not have any sheen as the silk is obtained from naturally raptured cocoons , hence also known as Ahimsa Silk . It has very subtle sheen . Eri looks and feels like fine cotton but has the properties of silk . It has anti -fungal and iso thermal properties ( constant temperature ).
