Eri silk is procured from the caterpillar Samia Cynthia Ricini and is found in the north eastern state of Assam and nearby region. Eri is also categorised as Ahimsa or Peace Silk as it is one of the rare silk that is procured from naturally ruptured cocoons.
Eri Silk inherently does not have any bright sheen. It always has a very subtle sheen . It looks and drapes like cotton but has all the inherent silk properties.
Eri cocoons comes in two natural colours - off whites and reddish brown . The resultant yarns in their natural colours reflect that . The red brown variety of cocoons are rarer than the off white.
The colours of the stole is the natural colour of the yarns . Base is in natural brown eri and the motifs in natural off white eri. No dyes have been used . The colours of the yarns are the natural colours of the silks .
