Handloom Traditional Mekhla Chadar from our looms in Assam , India.

The Mekhla Chadar has Raw Mulberry Silk in the warp and Indigo dyed Eri Silk in the weft and all the interwoven motifs are in Eri Silk .  Raw silk is the non degummed yarns of Mulberry Silk . They are also referred to as " Nooni silk " locally .

The Mekhla and Chador is a  traditional 2 piece dress from the North East State of Assam, India . The Mekhla is appx a 2 .5 meters by 36 Inches fabric , which is used as a lower wrap / skirt by Assamese Women. The Warp will have pleats when worn. The top part or 'chadar ' is a shawl or half -sari which is used to cover the upper portion of the body and is worn on top of the mekhla or wrap. The usual size is 3 Meters long and about 36 inches in width.

The fabric hand feel is slightly crisp and dry and will have very subtle sheen as both raw mulberry silk yarns and eri silk yarns inherently do not possess sheen .

It has a blouse piece that comes with a border.

We try to capture the exact colours but due to lighting issues , there may be slight difference of colour between the actual product and that of the image.
