Handloom Eri Silk Stripe Fabric by the Yard - 42"

Handwoven Eri silk fabric . 

This yardage is a genuine handloom production . It has mill spun Eri Silk yarn in the warp and mill spun Eri Silk yarn in the weft and the stripes are in Muga Spun Silk .

Eri silk is procured from the caterpillar Samia Ricini and is found in the north eastern state of Assam and nearby region.  
  Eri is also categorised as Ahimsa or Peace Silk .

Eri Silk and Muga Silk are the two indigenous silks from North East India . Muga Silk in particular is confined to the valleys of Assam . 

Unlike other silks, it does not have any sheen and the silk is obtained from raptured cocoons. Eri silk is always spun silk . Historically Eri Silks was used to make shawls and other similar articles for winter . With changing technologies , it is now possible to produce extremely fine Eri yarns that are use to make very fine textiles as the one listed here. 

Muga Spun is derived from the cocoon waste of the Muga silk cocoons . Muga silk is naturally deep golden . Muga Spun does not possess the lustrous golden tone /colour of the reeled cocoon yarns as it is spun silk . Hence the resultant fabric will also lack the deep sheen associated with silks . 

The fabric has a beautiful fall . Eri silk looks and feels like cotton but has the inherent silk properties. It is ideal for dresses, tops , Indian Kurtis , Blouses or curtains .

Wash Care  -  Can be hand washed . Use mild detergents , do not wring . Shade dry .
