This is a handloom product from our looms in Assam , India .
The Shawl has mill spun Eri silk yarns in the warp and hand spun Eri silk yarns in the weft . It has been woven in a very traditional manner on basic village looms . Traditionally Eri Silk yarns were always hand spun . Hence these kinds of shawls were always made from handspun yarns .Articles woven from hand spun yarns are more coarse and does not possess any shine. We have used mill spun yarns in the warp here . That makes the shawl softer , adds subtle lustre and also gives good drape .
These shawls have also undergone the process of Calendaring to make it smoother .
Eri silk is procured from the caterpillar Samia Cynthia Ricini and is found in the north eastern state of Assam and nearby region.
Unlike other silks, it does not have any sheen as the silk is obtained from naturally raptured cocoons. It has very subtle sheen . Eri looks and feels like fine cotton but has the properties of silk . It has anti -fungal and iso thermal properties ( constant temperature ).
