Handwoven Eri silk natural dyed shawl from our looms in Assam , India .
It has Eri Silk in the warp and weft and the interwoven motifs in ghicha silk . The warp yarns are mill spun yarns and the weft yarns are hand spun yarns . The yarns used here have been natural Indigo dyed .
Eri silk is procured from the caterpillar Samia Cynthia Ricini and is found in the north eastern state of Assam and nearby region.
Eri is also categorised as Ahimsa or Peace Silk as it is one of the rare silk that is procured without killing the moth. Eri along with Muga Silk is indigenous to the region .
Eri silk naturally does not possess any bright sheen . Hand spun eri silk is inconsistent in texture and fineness . Hence the resultant textile also reflects that . Mill spun eri silk yarns are consistent in their fineness . Since this shawl is a blend of both , it has a very unique texture . It is overall smooth with a slightly coarse with a dry hand feel . Ghicha silk is procured from the pierced cocoons or cocoon wastes of silks like tassar and Muga .
The entire process in the production of this stole is manual, hence the resultant texture is very unique .
Properly stored , it will last a lifetime. One of the best qualities of Handspun Eri or Muga is their durability and yarn strength .
This shawl is ideal for mild winter only or as an indoor shawl during winter .
The colours may fade and bleed due to the natural process of dying.
The colours that is visible on the website may slightly differ than the original due to light and photography factors.
