This Eri Shawl is a genuine handloom piece , it is hand spun and handwoven on the traditional looms by weavers from the north east state of Assam in India.
Eri silk is procured from the caterpillar Samia Cynthia Ricini and is found in the north eastern state of Assam and nearby region.
Eri is also categorised as Ahimsa or Peace Silk as it is one of the rare silk that is procured without killing the moth. Eri along with Muga Silk is indigenous to the region .
The Eri Silk used here is hand spun , hence it does not have a very soft feel or smoothness . And the motif yarns are also natural dyed eri silk.
The entire process in the production of this stole is manual, hence the resultant texture is very unique . Slightly coarse but that will disappear over time .
Unlike other silks, Eri Silk does not have any bright sheen. This shawl has undergone the process of smoothening that is known as calendaring . Hence it has subtle sheen .
Properly stored , it will last a lifetime. One of the best qualities of Handspun Eri or Muga is their durability and yarn strength .
This shawl is ideal for mild winter only or as an indoor shawl during winter .
