It has raw mulberry silk in the warp . The hand spun raw mulberry silk is known as 'nooni' in the region .
It has Eri Silk in the weft and all the interwoven motifs are in natural dyed Eri silk yarns.
Raw mulberry silk is the non degummed mulberry yarns . Hence it does not possess the softness or shine that is associated with silks .
Eri silk is procured from the caterpillar Samia Cynthia Ricini and is found in the north eastern state of Assam and nearby region.
Eri Silk inherently does not have any bright sheen as it is always spun silk . It always has a very subtle sheen . It looks and drapes like cotton but has all the inherent silk properties.
Eri Silk is easier to take care of than other more delicate silks like Mulberry Silks. If properly taken care of and stored in cool and dry place , It will last a lifetime.
The production of Eri Silk yarns is still majorly an indigenous activity of the tribal people of the region and the dyeing / weaving activities are mostly village activities that employs a large no of women from the villages.
Eri Silk also has anti fungal properties , hence ideal for anyone who has skin allergies.
Please note that there could be slight imperfections as these are handloom products.
