This is a handloom product from our looms in Assam , India .
The Shawl has mill spun Eri silk yarns in the warp and hand spun Eri silk yarns in the weft . Woven in basket weave to give the piece more density . Traditionally these kinds of textiles were woven in plain weave on the traditional looms by the weavers. We have tried to weave Eri silk in weaves like twill and basket . Due to the presence of hand spun yarns in the weft , there will be texture inconsistencies as hand spun yarns are never uniform . The blend of mill spun yarns and hand spun yarns gives these shawls a very unique texture . It has been washed post weaving to make it softer .
Eri silk is procured from the caterpillar Samia Cynthia Ricini and is found in the north eastern state of Assam and nearby region.
Unlike other silks, it does not have any sheen as the silk is obtained from naturally raptured cocoons , hence also known as Ahimsa Silk . It has very subtle sheen . Eri looks and feels like fine cotton but has the properties of silk . It has anti -fungal and iso thermal properties ( constant temperature ).
